Admission Free with Atlanta Botanical Garden entry
On February 10-11, the North Georgia Camellia Society (NGCS) will present its 75th annual camellia show in Day Hall at the Atlanta Botanical Garden (ABG). Mrs. Deen Day Sanders will serve as Honorary Chair for this “Diamond” Anniversary Show. This show is one of the oldest and largest in the nation.
The annual February Atlanta Camellia Show will include blooms grown in the Metro Area and elsewhere in the state of Georgia. In addition to showcasing beautiful antique & more current blooms, the show’s information booth will offer insights to the public & camellia growers. Seasoned growers will do special presentations on how to grow these beautiful blooms. All Camellia lovers are invited to participate & bring blooms.
A special note to those who wish to exhibit camellia blooms: Bloom intake opens at 8:00 AM on Saturday in Day Hall. Blooms should be in place by 10:30 AM. NGCS members will be available to help move blooms to Day Hall & to advise if needed on preparing blooms for exhibit. Cash awards will be given for the best blooms.
The NGCS, a non-profit organization, is devoted to educating gardeners of varying abilities & interests about camellias—Japonicas, Sasanquas, & Hybrid camellias—their care, cultivation, & enjoyment. Its meetings offer opportunity to meet others with expertise & interest in camellias. As a chapter of the American Camellia Society, the NGCS sponsors educational & social activities & promotes the beauty of these beloved Southern garden favorites through camellia shows.
Dedicated to fostering appreciation for & knowledge of the plants of the genus Camellia, the North Georgia Camellia Society hosts a number of special events during the year and meets monthly via Zoom. Anyone interested in camellias is invited to attend & to consider membership.
